There was a thread here a long time ago discussing a Paiste book that had drummers setups. This book must have been released in 1978-79 or thereabouts. I got a copy from DRUMS in Pittsburgh back then and spent many days looking over and over at all the setups in it...I think my Mom threw it away, I have no idea where it is.

Steve Hackett, the old guitarist in Genesis that played on the good stuff, had a drummer who had a set up that was so incredibly huge. It was diagrammed in that book. He had timbales, multiple floors, racks, double rows of cymbals, rides back here, over there, chinas, and more drums here and there.

It was crazy. His name was John Shearer.

Well, I found a DVD on EZT of Hackett's band from 79 and this guy is playing this set on it. And playing very basic proggish beats...of course he would, right? Not much in the way of incorporating that gigantic set.

Anyway, I like Hackett and the music is pretty good if you like old prog stuff, sorry Dazzler. It's a great recording.

I rem that. I have that old Paiste booklet packed away somewhere, [AWA the old Zildjian book, black w the "golden" cyms on front], & I rem Shearer from it too.

THE man in the drumchair for the Hackett gig was a cat named Hugo Daagenhardt [sp?]...most highly-esteemed very-honorable mention also goes to Chester T, & Bruford AW [Watcher/Skies remake disc]...

BIG Genesis fan, here. From the beginning up until Duke. After that, even tho the pop stuff was great for, well, "pop stuff," but they were an amazingly lush & grandiose epic prog band "back in the day" b4 that. NO comparison, really. But it was only befitting, AWA a testament to their chemistry & coolness, really, that they could be a smash in the pop veign.

Wind & Wuthering, & Then There Were 3, Seconds Out, Duke, Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Trick of the Tail, Selling England By the Pound...don't get me started...all had some really cool stuff.
W&W still gives me the chills sometimes...
